Family Therapy for Post Outpatient or Post Residential Addiction Treatment
The road to sobriety for young adults is challenging, but family-inclusive approach has been proven to increase positive outcomes for substance use treatment. My therapy services may be the right fit for families seeking follow-up or continued family therapy after their adult child has completed addiction treatment.
Individual Therapy
At times, the positives in our lives get overshadowed or overwhelmed by the difficulties, and we can become stuck in negative thinking, behaviors, and circumstances. From this stuck place, things that used to bring us joy no longer do, or our relationships seem more difficult and less satisfactory than before. Sometimes a traumatizing event or numerous traumas cause us to suffer and become seemingly trapped by fear. Other times, without necessarily knowing what is causing it, we experience anxiety, depression, or addictive behaviors.
Thankfully, you don’t have to continue struggling this way. One of the hardest things to grasp while feeling stuck or hopeless is that there is a way out of your pain and struggle.
I work individually with adults and young adults ages 18 and older who seek support for numerous reasons. Clients have described my style of therapy as approachable and warm while also practical and intentional. I believe my role is to serve as a guide and collaborator who walks alongside you as you grow and change. Together we will begin to understand how you got where you are and what you can do to feel better and improve your situation. We will uncover your strengths and resources, empowering you to cope with challenges without feeling lost or overwhelmed. In part, living well means facing your life with an increased ability to respond successfully to stress and hardship. Together we will work to restore your hope and cultivate resilience for a future that looks different than today.
Notable Areas of Experience and Focus:
At this time, I am accepting appointments for individuals, including several areas of focus: adjustment to college life, young adult “launching” related issues, adult ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Grief & Loss, and navigating major life transitions such as retirement, or “empty nesting.” Additionally, I have addiction treatment experience and may be the right fit for therapy if you are seeking help with substance use issues.

Couples Counseling
Couples coming to therapy are often dealing with long-standing friction and feel stuck in their patterns of conflict. In romantic love, conflict tends to repeat, and couples feel they have the same argument over and over. For others, there has been an impactful event or betrayal, and the couple is in deep pain.
I understand the states of fragility, anger, and hurt in which I first encounter couples and am experienced in working through these relationship challenges.
What to expect in couples therapy:
My role is to help couples identify, understand, and process the most painful parts of their relationship. This begins by helping each partner understand the underlying emotions fueling the patterns of their relationship. Then, time is spent with each partner learning how to negotiate their thoughts and feelings with more awareness and resilience. As each partner’s insights and skills increase, new patterns develop, and the couple learns to work through life’s obstacles together. I also offer observations of the couple’s greatest strengths as they navigate change and growth. The primary goal of couples therapy is to cultivate the skills to handle the inevitable challenges of romantic partnership with empathy, kindness, and respect; and to function as a “team” relying on each other for support and comfort.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy is the model of therapy I use and in which I am trained. This therapy is an evidence-based and proven therapy model for long-term relationship satisfaction. The goal is to create safety, heal wounds, and form new healthy patterns of interaction within a couple’s relationship. I am currently working towards full certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Outcomes couples can expect from therapy:
rebuild connection
repair past relationship injuries
learn healthy communication skills for future conflict
re-establish the relationship as a source of support and comfort
improve intimacy
learn to co-parent more effectively
enhance what is already working well
It is a courageous act to seek change. I approach my clinical work with a deep understanding of how difficult the first steps toward therapy can be. Because I am a wife, a mother, and a professional, I bring clinical training and lived experiences to my warm and approachable style of therapy. I will encourage you in every step of your journey to a more satisfying relationship between you and your partner.
Notable areas of experience and focus:
At this time, I am accepting appointments for couples, including several areas of focus: same-sex couples, couples where one partner has a diagnosis of ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and/or Depression. Additionally, I have addiction treatment experience and may be the right fit for therapy if a partner struggles with sobriety from substances such as drugs or alcohol.

Family Counseling
Family is where we first learn our values, customs, and traditions, and how to view and observe the world around us. We also learn about love and how to interact with others from these important relationships. Our early family environment and experiences heavily influence how we interact with others throughout life. Simply stated, our family affects who we become.
I am prepared and trained to work with your family no matter its size or make-up (single or co-parent, divorced or separated, non-traditional, guardian or grandparent). My education is specialized in family systems, and I have real-world experience helping families establish less conflictual and more resilient and satisfying relationships. My approach to family therapy is research-based with a mix of talk therapy and interactive experiences. Complimenting my clinical experience and educational background, I, too, am a parent raising three children in today’s quickly changing world and have a pulse on the daily demands of family life.
What to expect in family therapy?
Examine your family’s ability to solve problems and express thoughts and emotions
Explore family roles and rules
Work to uncover repeated negative patterns of conflict
Identify family’s strengths and ways to deepen connection and belonging
Some positive family therapy outcomes are:
Promotes problem-solving and collaboration
Strategies to develop and maintain boundaries
Reduced conflict
When conflict does arise, manage it with healthy communication skills
Increased empathy and understanding
Increased cohesion and connection

Family Therapy for Post Outpatient or Post Residential Addiction Treatment
The road to sobriety for young adults (age 21 and older) is challenging and rewarding, humbling and empowering. A family-inclusive approach has been proven to increase positive outcomes for substance use treatment and is an important factor in long-term success. Once a young adult completes outpatient or residential addiction treatment, families often need support to navigate the next stage of sobriety: incorporating the skills and insights gained in treatment into real-world, day-to-day living.
My therapy services may be the right fit for families seeking follow-up or continued family therapy after their adult child has completed out or inpatient addiction treatment.
My approach to supporting young adults in their sober lifestyle includes parents. When parents are part of substance use treatment, open communication, healthy boundaries, conflict management skills, and family cohesion contribute to a solid foundation for success in sobriety.
Please note: I do not work with families seeking help for their teens (ages 14-20) struggling with addiction.
